  • Open Topic

For essay #2 i think i'm going to do a whole paper about sexual assault and what causes it to happen. I'm going to be focusing on the fact that little girls are brought up seeing the celebrities in our country wear little to no clothing, and those girls copy that image. It's unfortunte because I don't think all sexual assaults are due to the perpetrator being a pervert. I think a lot could be avoided if young girls covered up and didn't potray the wrong image. This is something that really interests me. I'm not really sure why it does, but it does.

  • Group Work

I think I have a really good reliable group so I'm excited to get started. We first had an idea for a topic that was about college students and drop out rates and if they had any connection to race or religon or any other sterotype. From that we realized we would have to survey people we knew that dropped out of college. That seemed pretty hard considering not one of us knew a great amount of people to survey. We took this negitive into a positive by changing our topic to "Why college students stay and return to college every year?" This way we can survey anyone who is in or has been to college and ask them why they went back every year. There isn't any real reason we need to spend money on a higher education. It's just tied to a better job.

  • credible vs noncredible sources

My first topic was "Drop out rates in colleges". I was going to research why students dropped out and see which states or colleges had the highest rates of drop outs and what their reason was. One crediable source would be http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/10053859/ MSNBC is a news channel that has been giving news for decades now. This news channel is trustworthy because all of the facts are cited and taken from government studies. One noncrediable source would be anything from "wikipedia." Wikipedia is an online encyclopedia that anyone can edit. This makes all of their figures uncrediable because they can be changed at anytime.

  • Plagiarism

St. Rose has a whole policy on plagiarism. It's honesty policy had specific guidelines as to what exactly plagiarism was. Some of the things were purchasing any information from anyone or anywhere, copying word for word from something, and even paraphrasing someone else's work. St.Rose pretty much defines academic dishonesty as taking someone else's work and putting your name on it. Consequences are first up to the professor, and what he or she wants to do after they find out the student has cheated. After the professor desides to do something about it, they put in a report. If the student has more than one report on their record, they could be expelled out of the college of st rose. This policy isn't much of a shock to me. I agree with all of it pretty much and it reminds me a lot of high school. At my high school we had a stricked policy about plagiarism and they warned us that college would be even stricker. I had heard from a lot of people that if you were caught cheating once, you were thrown out of college. So it's nice to see you get a second chance I guess. I wouldn't change the policy at all. I think you get what you deserve if you cheat. It's not really fair to anyone.

    http://www.plagiarismtoday.com/2009/02/10/10-dollar-articles-plagiarism-checker/

That's a website that can take any text on the computer and search it in all documents it can find and see if there are any matches. It's the new way to find cheaters easier.
